Can you give the output of the following command:
$ time lpinfo -m > /dev/null
I had the same problem a while ago, removing the cache file
/var/cache/cups/ppds.dat solved my problem, cups will regenerate the
cache then. This could be an upgrade issue, if you ever had a pre-1.2
version of CUPS installed, the ppds.dat format *did* change. More
information can be found in bug #55685.
