This holds true for ALL drop-down-selects within ALL Gnome settings-dialogues,
which have a drop-down-select. This is even true for most programs, whenn
running within Gnome (e.g. Nautilus).
This is a very basic-feature, every program should be capable of. EVERY
drop-down-select ANYWHERE in a UI should be able of select an item by typing in
the first letters. What is possible in a browser during website-rendering,
should be also possible on a desktop-system. So please give this bug a higher
importance, because it is such a terrible usability mistake. I don't want to
touch my mouse for tasks like selecting my country from a drop-down–and there
are users around this world, who even can't use a mouse. And selecting an entry
out of 200 by just using the arrow keys can be quite time-consuming.
