This looks like a request for help rather than a bug, so I've
converted it to a question.

>From your question it looks like you're terminal is starting a csh
which uses % as the default prompt rather than $ used by bash or sh.

I suspect you probably did this by the command:

csh -s /bin/csh

and you can switch it back with

csh -s /bin/bash
