I have a similar issue with evince in Lucid Server, basic X.org
installation (no gnome desktop)

$ evince

org.gnome.SettingsDaemon: Could not get owner of name
'org.gnome.SettingsDaemon': no such name

(evince:12592): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to read the recently used
resources file at `/home/UNIXHOME/agottschalk/.recently-used.xbel', but
the parser failed: Failed to open file '/home/UNIXHOME/agottschalk
/.recently-used.xbel': Permission denied.

** (evince:12592): WARNING **: Error creating last_settings file: Error
opening file '/home/UNIXHOME/agottschalk/.gnome2/evince/last_settings':
Permission denied

Segmentation fault
