I tested the scenario, but for me it behaves differently in natty. Upon resuming, I see a half-empty panel, but nothing on my desktop, presumably because it insists putting screens side by side. If I reconfigure them in gnome-display-properties, the external screen goes black forever, so I can't use this :-( So I'm afraid I can't sensibly test this with my hardware.
