My last two posts can apparently be disregarded. Reading http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/natty/beta#Graphics%20and%20display and bug 711378's other duplicates has convinced me that my problem is really bug 711378, and not this. I'll mark my bug 724143 as a duplicate of bug 711378 instead of this bug.
