You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome
It is about the problem described in this Blueprint: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config- printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center GNOME 3 comes with the new System Settings environment and in there is a new printer setup tool written from scratch. This does not contain all the 10 years of experience of Tim Waugh and me to work around shortcomings of CUPS and printer drivers to make printer setup easy, and also not the automatic download of drivers via OpenPrinting. To avoid getting all the bug reports again about things which got fixed in system-config-printer or rewriting system-config-printer in C, waisting a lot of developer time and getting a lot of new bugs we could go a very simple way in Ubuntu: Hide the GNOME 3 printer setup tool and add an icon to the system settings which opens system-config-printer in a separate window. Best would be to solve bug 787694, but if this gets too complicated we should fix this bug which is option #1 of the Blueprint. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Confirmed -- GNOME 3 System Settings: Hide printer setup tool and add icon to launch system-config-printer in a separate window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
