Thanks for your reply. A power spike during a thunder storm resulted in the boot sequence of Ubuntu becoming corrupted. I had to reinstall from CD. After that, the emblems were OK. Since then, I have never tried to synchronize any folders outside the Ubuntu One folder and all emblems display OK now. I think the problem resulted from my trying to synchronize folders outside Ubuntu One and the other named home folders. Thanks.
