You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've been using ubuntu since 10.04. this problem seems to be in 11.04 as
well.

1. save file
2. type in name of filename to use
3. after several characters, if any existing files match these letter, the
entry field is replaced by the existing file name.
4. addition entry of characters is not possible

e.g.

1. i want to save the file as "mydocument details"

2. if a file called "mydocustuff" exists, after typeing "myd", the
filename entry field is replaced by "mydocustuff". any attempt to
continue entering the rest of the filename in 1. is prohibited.

i have to manually clear the filename field and re-enter the filename.

this is extremely irritating and non productive.

i would suggest that automatic "false" complete of the filename be
eliminated when saving files.
