No, there was a libdotconf1.0 [version 1.0.13-3] installed though. I installed the libdconf0 [version 0.7.3-0ubuntu1] and the calculator does appear to be saving the settings now. This is not a package I removed manually, though I suppose it could have been removed as I removed other packages over time. Perhaps libdconf0 should be listed as a dependency of gcalctool?
