Hi Simon,

/etc/default/locale contains system wide settings that basically affect
the startup and the login screen. Once logged in, your personal language
settings override the system wide ditto.

Please select English as your user language, either from the language
chooser at the bottom of the login screen or from Language Support.

I recommend that you click the "Help" button on the Language Support
window for a description of how things are intended to work.
