To clarify, after disabling the 'Show menubar by default in new
terminals' option in the default profile, new terminals pop up with a
menu bar.  At this point, 'Show menubar' is unchecked in the view menu.
Selecting 'Show menubar' from the menu checks/activates the option in
the menu.  Selecting/deactivating once more via the menu turns the menu
bar off for good.

Launching gnome-terminal with the following options also has no affect:

$ gnome-terminal --hide-menubar
$ gnome-terminal --hide-menubar --disable-factory
