This issue is still there. I'm using a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile D9500. If I put this GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_backlight=vendor" in my /etc/default/grub file, then the brightness works fine; however, the brightness controls in Settings no longer work.
