can someone comment on the state of this thread, particularly with respect to ubuntu dapper? i can't seem to get dpms to kick in, no matter what i do with gnome-screensaver or gnome-power-manager. what makes this thread interesting to me is that the configuration involves a laptop sitting closed on a desk, connected to an external keyboard/monitor. is there really an issue with the lid state that i should know about? someone have a pointer to an acpi bug, perhaps?
