I experience this issue too in Precise. After an upgrade of Oneiric on 2011-12-21 (previous upgrade: 2011-12-05) I also see this behaviour in Oneiric. However, not sure that this upgrade introduced the issue in Oneiric as it's sporadic and I mainly run Precise.
It seems that a wrong screen resolution is handed over to Nautilus and as James indicates this might very well be a race condition issue as it's sporadic.
