Per Till's suggestion, I commented out a line in /etc/cups/ppd/Generic- PCL-6-PCL-XL-Printer.ppd:
*%cupsFIlter: "application/vnd.cups-pdf 0 foomatic-rip" error_log_2 shows the error log when printing from this method.
