Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

gnome-volume-manager-gthumb rotates imported images by default (seems to be no
way to stop that), but doesn't remove the orientation tag.
This causes at least two problems:
1. If I have a folder with unrotated images (import via cardreader) and rotated
images (import via Gnome), they both have an orientation-header and I cannot
rotate them automatically (e.g. with jhead).
2. And some image-viewers will rotate the image according to the orientation
header, thus they're being "unrotated".
This is most annoying.

** Affects: gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
