Public bug reported:

MKV-file headers may contains values to be used for players affecting
top-, left-, right-, and bottom-pixels cropping. Totem does not
currently recognize those header values, and just ignores them.

This can be demonstrated using the mkvmerge GUI program and its header
editor to fiddle with such values, and them running the resulting files
through totem. Another player than totem (VLC) was tried, which
recognized those values, and therefore cropped the video upon playing to
remove the annoying border flickering that was experienced in that given
file, without the need for the stream to be reencoded, and either
suffering from a deterioration in quality, or becoming huge through
lossless reencoding. (Consider this as an argument for the pertinence of
this bug.)

This bug can be experienced under Precise, using the as-of-current
latest build of totem.
