when using gnome-control-center soundnua (sound setting in unity) to
select the 4.0/5.1/7.1 mode of on-board audio in ubuntu 12.04,

select headphone of on-board audio profile when headphone is plugged
into front audio panel

however the mode change from 4.0/5.1/7.1 to stereo after switch back to
analog output of on-board audio analog output.

The speaker jacks are plugged at the rear audio panel
