Public bug reported:

I'm concerned with how much memory is used in my Ubuntu 12.04 system on
Toshiba AC100 because there is little RAM.

Epiphany works quite fast on my system, but I have noticed that a lot of
memory was consumed after I left Gmail open in Epiphany over a night.

Perhaps, there is a memory leak?

So, I made an observation over Epiphany's memory consumption (with a
simple script that printed how much memory the processes consume every 5
minutes -- https://gitorious.org/ps-memstat/ps-
memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat or
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-
data/view/head:/ps-memstat -- it runs "ps"):

after Epiphany launched, I opened Gmail in it (the main page, with the
index of my messages) and didn't touch it for about a day.

The data of my observations are saved in https://gitorious.org/ps-
memstat/ps-memstat/blobs/epiphany/ac100-second-longer/ps-memstat-
epiphany.out . (They also should be visible in
https://code.launchpad.net/~imz/epiphany-browser/ps-memstat-data , but,
unfortunately, the import of this non-HEAD branch into Launchpad didn't
work correctly -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/1000852 ).

In the beginning, the state was like this (it's the output of "ps --sort
-vsize -o comm,vsize,size,rss"):

Mon Jul 30 16:19:50 VLAT 2012
COMMAND VSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 21476 224 568
bash 6248 2496 3748
ps-memstat 3680 244 1092
ps 1872 632 668
head 1388 296 416
Mon Jul 30 16:24:50 VLAT 2012
COMMAND VSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 323568 243108 51116
bash 6248 2496 80
ps-memstat 3680 244 404
tail 2980 300 156
ps 1872 632 668
head 1388 296 416

In the end:

Wed Aug 1 14:00:27 VLAT 2012
COMMAND VSZ SIZE RSS
epiphany-browse 381232 300772 55976
bash 6248 2496 0
ps-memstat 3728 292 380
tail 2980 300 96
ps 1872 632 672
head 1388 296 416

So, the consumed virtual memory increased by 60Mb or so.

More info: disk cache is disabled in my Epiphany (not to cause load on
my flash harddrive). I'd also like to give up swap, but that's not
realistic yet to run programs without swap, because they tend to consume
more and more memory (like in the reported case of Epiphany).

I also have a feeling that the Midori process similarly grows constantly
in size if it is left with Gmail opened for a while (a night).
