Nick, what if you run 'gconftool --type bool --set /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true', does it work then?
If yes, the issue is that your g-s-d settings have it disabled, and then when you log in and g-s-d starts, it sets "Device Enabled" to "0", but doesn't touch "Synaptics Off". The bug is in g-s-d and it's peculiar way to touch both settings, where 'xinput disable' only touches the other one. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/804109 Title: can't enable touchpad in Ubuntu (thinkpads) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/804109/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
