Public bug reported:

I see the logic in that the lowest brightness would be 0. But in
reality, it seems a very impractical solution. Dragging the slider to 0
and then not being able to turn it up again (my hotkeys don't work --
kernel related issue.) I would propose that the lowest setting indeed is
very dark, but not completely black.

This problem appears on an Asus UX32VD, running Ubuntu 12.10.
