Hi ksenija,
building kernel from source code is a experienced skill, there are some pre 
compiled kernel image on :
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
usually, double clicking the DEB file in the nautils will install the kernel.

to see which kernel you have, run following command in a Terminal:
uname -a

to see error report
dmesg | grep -i error      ( "grep -i error " will filter for errors)
