I finally was able to prevent the screen to become black after inactivity by 
running in a terminal:
  sudo xset s off

I have no idea what that is (just copied and pasted it from some askubuntu 
answer) and it's absolutely insane that you have to write a command from a 
terminal in order to prevent the screen to turn black.
The very fact there are tons of questions in forums about how to complelety 
turn off screensaver in Ubuntu means there's something badly wrong with it. ALL 
system settings should be found under "System Settings", and screen saving 
options should be easily and readily available under "Power".

By the way, I notice the bug has been assigned to the package "gnome-
control-center". I guess that is what shows up in dash as "System
Settings", right?
