Public bug reported:

I updated Ubuntu 12.04 to version 14.04 using "sudo update-manager -d".
No errors occurred but the gnome-settings information dialogue tells me
that I am running Ubuntu 13.10. This is very confusing for the average
user. I'm running the Gnome Desktop.

** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
