I realize it's not a bug but a feature request, still I'd very much like it to be implemented. It's easy to forget running gedit with sudo when trying to create new files in directories you don't have write rights to. I believe many users new to Ubuntu can relate. This feature would be a great step towards more usability. Another possibility would be a warning if you are editing a file you don't have write access to.
