if you use ubuntu-bug first then you should be able to use apport- retrace if not you can always do "apport-unpack .crash dir" and the dir should have a coredump, then you can use "gdb /usr/bin/gnome-shell CoreDump" and get a backtrace from it (you might need to install some dbgsym binaries to get symbols though)
