I am reassigning this bug to the kernel since that's usually who the
iio-sensor-proxy developer blames for issues like this.

You can try filing an issue with iio-sensor-proxy though.

If you open the system status menu in the far right of the top bar, you
can click the icon at the bottom of the menu that looks like a rotated
rectangle to lock or unlock screen auto-rotation. That might be a good
workaround.
