Run this command in a terminal:
sudo apt install tracker
After installing tracker, log out and log back in. You can customize the
folders that are indexed in Settings > Search > gear button.
I'm marking this bug a duplicate of bug #1666676 since that's the bug
that requests that tracker be installed by default.
