Just wanted to weigh in: simply adding "nomodeset" to my kernel command line worked! I was able to use the proprietary NVidia drivers, no problem. I'm on a ThinkPad T570.
It looks like due to this change, I'm using X11 instead of Wayland. I don't know if I care either way, everything works great and the graphics are snappy. Hopefully Wayland will be ready by the time 18.04 launches. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705369 Title: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1705369/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
