Public bug reported:

My local network uses (it's being phased out slowly) XXX.cmu.local DNS
names for systems on non-routable networks.

After upgrading from zesty to artful, my system is not able to resolve
those names anymore, even after removing libnss-mdns again. dig reports
that systemd-resolved is returning SERVFAIL

This seems to be the same as this upstream report, which was allegedly fixed.
