I had the same issue after uprading from Ubuntu Gnome 17.04 to Ubuntu 17.10. I "fixed it" by using Xorg instead of Wayland. A colleague of me had the same issue in Arch Linux half a year ago. Always good to know someone who is living on the bleeding edge :D
