Public bug reported:

I wish a Unity like desktop bar in Gnome, or the default desktop manager
of Ubuntu.

More precisely: a desktop bar which is capable to steal, to take away
the menu bars of the application windows, and show the menu bar of that
application window which is in focus currently.

I wish this in the default desktop manager, what is currently Gnome if I
know correctly.

The only reason why I still use the Unity is this feature what I find
very comfortable.

Can I configure the Gnome desktop this way right now, or it needs an
amount of programming, and a better knowledge of the gnome system?

If my wish is not only a simple configuration or a bit more only, and if
the solution does not need far too deep knowledge of the Gnome desktop
programming, then I am ready to program it, if someone gives me the
references to concise reading materials enough for this work (I use and
program computers since 1972 on regular daily base, and a I am fluent in
unix/linux tools, including C/C++ what I teach regularly at the
university).

[[it was suggested me at the AskUbuntu, that this kind of wishes fits
here to the bug reports better, and somebody with enough privileges will
mark this as a "wish list" item]]

** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
