I can't reproduce this. I think it might be helpful if you could write
some steps to reproduce the problem. e.g.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start gnome-terminal .
2. Type
echo "http://www.google.com/";
and then press return.
3. Hover over http://www.google.com/ and press the right mouse button.
4. Choose open link.

Expected results:
Firefox to start if it is not already running and to go to 
http://www.google.com/ . New tab to appear and for tab to go to 
http://www.google.com/ if firefox is already running.

Actual results:
Expected results:

http://www.google.com/ . New tab to appear and for tab to go to 
http://www.google.com/ if firefox is already running.


It may also be useful if you could check ~/.xsession-errors for any related 
output along with the results of running
gnome-www-browser
