Public bug reported:
9-8-018
I suspect this is a gdm3 bug as a similar bug was reported earlier with blank
purple screen. This is running a fully updated fresh install september-8-018
some switch user operations function. Others result in a successful
appearance, but the machine is non-responsive. alt-f1 etc. do nothing.
Also, logout results in hangup at black screen.
When the user switch works, the mouse pointer shows up bottom right.
When the switch appears to work, but doesn't, the mouse pointer shows up
at top right, but the machine is frozen. Also, the machine appears to
pick a favored user and an unfavored user .. freezing for one and
working for the other. In an earlier install, the original user was the
favored user .. for current install, the second user seems to be
favored and the original user unfavored. This may simply be caused by
some sort of toggling effect I suppose, and have nothing to do with the
user.
I am running a ubuntu 18.04 amd64 system on
Dell optiplex 745 with
core 2 duo 3.16 ghz
and an SSD
/var/crash folder is empty
/var/log/gdm3 is empty
matt@Wallace:~$ apt list gdm3
Listing... Done
gdm3/bionic-updates,bionic-security,now 3.28.2-0ubuntu1.4 amd64 [installed]
N: There is 1 additional version. Please use the '-a' switch to see it
matt@Wallace:~$ apt list gdm3 -a
Listing... Done
gdm3/bionic-updates,bionic-security,now 3.28.2-0ubuntu1.4 amd64 [installed]
gdm3/bionic 3.28.0-0ubuntu1 amd64
this appears to be regression of 1766137 from my perspective
