Sounds like equal blame on the application, window manager (mutter) and
the user :)
* Application: Is 640x480 still so may be to blame for ignoring window
resize requests.
* Window manager: May be ignoring the "Fullscreen" state on the
window(?). But not sure, since it works with the above workaround.
* User: Added custom mode "960x540" which seems to be confusing the
system.
