You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have recently noticed that since I upgraded from GNOME 3.14 to GNOME 3.16 on
Ubuntu GNOME 15.04 that in gedit if you create a file, save it, then make some
changes to it, and finally click the "x" button in order to close the program
you get a dialog that asks you if you would rather: "Close without saving",
"Cancel", or "Save".
And all of the options work as you would expect, except for the "Save" option
which most would expect (as this is done in every other text editing program
that I have ever used, and I have used many, and it also does not do this in
previous versions of gedit) would save, and then exit, but instead it just
saves, and then you have to press the "x" button again to close.

Now I think that as gedit used to do, and every other text editing
program does, it should save and then exit without you needing to click
the "x" again.
