Public bug reported:

First:
On the status bar, there is no volume icon, just an empty space.
The icon only appears on logout.

Second:
The volume and brightness sliders are broken, are always at 0 regardless to the 
real volume (set either using alternative software/desktop or using keyboard 
keys).
When you change the volume using the sliders, it really changes the volume but 
keeps the slider at the value it was if you change the volume using another way.
