this is a testing machine tracking the ubuntu development for several years. The version reported was pulled as a part of routine update. But the problem certainly existed before.
The content of the /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/gdm-config-derivative after instaling ubuntu-desktop followed by xubuntu-desktop and edubuntu-desktop is: auto /etc/gdm/gdm-cdd.conf /etc/xdg/xubuntu/gdm/gdm.conf 50 /usr/share/edubuntu-artwork/gdm/gdm-cdd.conf 55 should have been (appox): auto /etc/gdm/gdm-cdd.conf /etc/gdm/gdm.conf 50 /etc/xdg/xubuntu/gdm/gdm.conf 51 /usr/share/edubuntu-artwork/gdm/gdm-cdd.conf 55 else your original ubuntu gdm config is lost forever which is a pitty since it's realy nice. I suggest gdm use "gdm-config-alternative" as well anticipating the possible use of xubuntu and edubuntu later. -- missing alternatives entry https://launchpad.net/bugs/95017 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
