Maybe it wasn't running, but when I tried to start it it said :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo /etc/dbus-1/event.d/20hal start
 * Starting Hardware abstraction layer hald         
/usr/sbin/hald already running.

I didn't change anything, so I don't know why it's already running now.
