Yep I somehow had that set in my /etc/environment (don't ever remember setting it though). I removed it and rebooted and performance has gotten slightly better but now the logs are being spammed with "Meta.Rectangle is deprecated, use Mtk.Rectangle instead" from the bug you linked. Gnome-shell's CPU usage doesn't get as high as previously, it now ends up getting to around 50±% but is accompanied by a spike in systemd- journald so I guess that points to the log spam causing the slowdown on my machine. The spikes mainly occur when going into the overview and switching workspaces.
I expect lower end/older systems would feel this the most, with newer systems not noticing any significant slowdown on the desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2034722 Title: High CPU usage causing slowdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2034722/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
