I tried adding MUTTER_DEBUG_FORCE_KMS_MODE=simple in my 24.04 LTS
install. In the 2 months since then, I think it has mitigated the
problem, except when I have Rhythmbox running. If I have Rhythmbox
playing for several hours with no screen interaction, i.e. only using
keyboard multimedia keys to control it, I still encounter this problem.
It's happened often enough that I've written a script to shutdown
important apps and restart gnome that I can easily run from a ssh shell.
