Public bug reported:
Since the release of Ubuntu 26.04 and Kernel 7.0, Steam's top-level
menus (Steam, View, Friends, etc.) and the status dropdown in the
Friends/Chat window (Online, Invisible, Away) do not open when clicked.
Technical context:
This issue is exclusive to the Wayland session.
Crucial note: The exact same version of Steam works correctly on Fedora
with Kernel 7.0, which points to a specific regression in Ubuntu’s
Mutter (v50.1) or GNOME Shell integration.
The menus seem to be "losing focus" or being rendered behind the main
window instantly.
Steps to reproduce:
Open Steam on Ubuntu 26.04 (Wayland).
Click on the "Steam" or "View" menu at the top left.
Observe that nothing happens (the menu doesn't appear).
Open the Friends list and try to change your status. The dropdown
doesn't trigger.
