Thanks for the information. It looks like the blame lies in the graphics
driver, so that's either the kernel or Mesa.
You may find it's any GTK4 app that can trigger the issue so that's why
Ptyxis would be affected but not gnome-terminal (GTK3). Because GTK3
does not use the GPU.
As a workaround you might like to try adding one of these to
/etc/environment:
GSK_RENDERER=gl
or
GSK_RENDERER=cairo
and reboot.
