Thank you for taking the time to report.
I reproduced in a Resolute libvirt VM (virtio-vga, gdm autologin,
xfreerdp client)
Remote Login enabled, local session active. RDP connect, greeter
renders, password, "Session Already Running", Force Stop. Result:
uniform black frame. Connection stays up, zero screen updates for 45+s.
Disconnect, reconnect, log in: desktop works.
This isn't a 50.2 regression. Same black screen, same journal line on
50.0-ubuntu2:
gdm3[...]: Gdm: GdmDisplay: Session never registered, failing
Sequence: password accepted, logind session created. Force Stop kills
the local session. New remote gnome-session starts while the old
user@1000 teardown is still running. ~2s later GDM gives up with
"Session never registered" and fails the display. Client left attached
to a dead virt monitor.
So: GDM/gnome-session race in the Force-Stop handover, not a g-r-d
encode problem. Greeter streams fine over the same connection seconds
earlier. Likely this belongs to gdm3, will need to collect some debug
logging.
** Also affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
