Public bug reported:
Ubuntu 26.04
Nautilus: 1:50.2.2-0ubuntu0.2
gvfs-backends: 1.60.0-1ubuntu0.1
After successfully authenticating to an FTP server in Nautilus, opening
the FTP root fails with “The file is not a directory”
(Portuguese: “O arquivo não é um diretório”).
The directory contains an absolute symbolic link:
webmail.example.com -> /usr/local/roundcube
The target is inaccessible within the FTP account's filesystem.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect to an FTP account using Nautilus.
2. Open a directory containing a symlink whose target is inaccessible.
3. Nautilus fails to display the entire directory.
Expected:
Display the directory contents, including the symlink, even if its
target cannot be accessed.
Actual:
The entire listing fails with G_IO_ERROR_NOT_DIRECTORY (code 4).
Diagnostic results:
- Authentication succeeds.
- Direct FTP LIST succeeds.
- Normal GIO enumeration fails.
- GIO enumeration with NOFOLLOW_SYMLINKS succeeds and returns 9 items.
- Querying the symlink while following its target reproduces the error.
- FTP CWD to /usr/local/roundcube and /usr/local returns 550.
- Opening /public_html directly works.
- The same error was reproduced under a separate Unix user with empty
XDG directories, private D-Bus and GSettings stored in memory.
- Resetting Nautilus settings and reinstalling Nautilus and GVfs
did not resolve the problem.
This demonstrates that the failure does not depend on settings
imported from an older home directory.
A regression from Ubuntu 24.04 has not been verified.
