You have been subscribed to a public bug:
System > Quit. GDM "Choose Server" box appears (I have two X servers
configured), but right when the box appears, the screen fades out and
gnome-screensaver locks.
Apparently the case of having GDM prompt wasn't considered, so the
fadeout is being issued prematurly.
