Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

When using the 'Open Files...' dialog in gEdit, if browsing the user's
home directory, it includes all of the hidden (~/.*) files and
directories. While it is useful to have access to these files and dirs
sometimes, from a usability point of view it would be better if they are
not displayed by default. Perhaps a checkbox to toggle the display of
the hidden files/dirs on and off would be the best approach?

** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
