You have been subscribed to a public bug:
When selecting a screensaver under "System > Preferences > Screensaver",
you should be able to select a separate screensaver when a laptop is
plugged-in (A/C) and when it is on battery.
There is an option under "System > Preferences > Screensaver > Power
Management" for turning off the screen, but the screensaver still plays
underneath and therefore takes up the GPU (or CPU on emdedded systems).
You can only set the screensaver time universally but not specific to
the power settings. If you could set the screensaver to turn on after 5
minutes on A/C and never for battery, then this would be beneficial for
the average Ubuntu user and their battery life.
** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Rejected
