Okay, thanks Alex, that clarifies things quite a lot. I guess Xterm and its sisters have repurposed the kfX strings. It might help for terminfo(5) to clarify this situation (even though it really isn't ncurses' responsibility to do so, since that's not the original meaning of those names; still, it does briefly address XTerm/DEC mouse handling).
